New Fun Palace
My project was based on the coexistence of leisure and industry in Ijmuiden Fishing Harbour. By investigating the scale difference of these two settings, I found spatially and temporally separation and tried to visualize layers of such separation. The project then seeks to intertwine these two-scale activities through in-between layers.
In order to introduce industrial settings to masses, I developed a kinetic facade system which is driven by wind showing wavy movement to show how industry could really response to our daily life and become a part of ‘fun’.
The ‘New Fun Palace’ was to restore industrial culture and vitalize Ijmuiden by introducing leisure activities with industrial language. I would like people to understand transition of these two kinds of atmosphere and create coexistence which would be adaptable to indeterminacy of functional requirements.
